your team’s energy, morale, and overall success are shaped by the small, subconscious messages we send every day. by becoming more intentional about these micromessages, you can create a more engaged workplace, one that drives both morale, retention, and overall business growth.
of course the largest part of communication is the words we speak, but our smallest actions—where we place our phone, how we enter a room, whether our camera is on or off, send signals that shape how your team, your partners, and your clients perceive you.
simple ways to shift perception:
own your presence, and respect your team’s
- make eye contact and acknowledge people with a good morning. walk into a room (or log onto a call) with purpose.
- avoid distractions. phones on the table is sometimes unavoidable, but there’s always a time and place. one of my favorite follows, Jeanelle Teves, shares tips on balancing it all and a common theme in her content is the power of staying present.
- show up with a positive outlook. your team will feed off your energy—when you show up with attentiveness, they will too.
- take inspiration from Timm Chiusano, he spends his Sundays prepping a spreadsheet of birthdays for his team of 100+ just to ensure they feel seen. it truly is the little things.
- separate work and home.your environment is often out of your control, but your mindset isn’t. creating a clear boundary between work and personal life (even if you work from home) is key.
at the end of the day, life is all about balance. when work starts, you owe it to yourself to be the best version possible. when work ends, your act two begins, as Michael Allosso would say.
🥡 the takeaway: whether in person or online, your micromessages tell a story. be intentional about how you show up for others. do yourself a favor and create boundaries that allow you to be at your best. and your team will follow suit.
