two years ago, I did something that made my bank account cry:
I spent $3,000 on an online social marketing course.
even typing that makes me wince a little.
but at the time, I was stuck. I was running my own business, trying to grow, and I kept hitting the same wall: I knew enough to do my job well, but not enough to do it better. I’d plateaued.
so, I did what every sane person does when they hit an existential career crisis: I panic-bought a $3k course 🤪and my biggest takeaway might not be what you think:
the hard truth is that you don’t grow in this industry (or any industry) by just doing your job every day. you grow by getting uncomfortable. by admitting there are people who know more than you- and learning from them.
continued learning isn’t optional anymore. the speed of change in marketing right now is wild. every time I blink there’s a new platform, a new AI feature, a new algorithm, a new acronym I’m pretending to understand in meetings.
AI alone has completely rewritten how we create, measure, and communicate. (and if you haven’t noticed, it’s not slowing down.) AI has made continued learning essentially a non-negotiable, and the people who stay curious, who keep learning, experimenting, and adapting are the ones who won’t get left behind.
that course gave me more than hard skills and tactics. it gave me momentum.
it reminded me how to think like a marketer again- not just do marketing. it forced me to ask better questions, to look at what’s actually working for other people, to learn from them instead of testing and learning in my own bubble.
and sure, $3,000 made me sweat. but the return was way bigger than money. I got sharper, faster, and more confident.
regardless of industry, I learned that investing in yourself- your brain, your skills, your network- will always pay off.
growth demands continuous investment
if you want to be a leading force in your industry, you have to keep learning. you have to keep showing up- even if you’re “too busy.” even if it feels uncomfortable. even if you don’t feel like it.
- watch what’s working for brands right now.
- borrow frameworks and inspiration from smart ideas.
- get inspired by people who are doing it well.
- push and stretch yourself.
here’s your chance to do it
in May, we’re hosting the platform– a two-day intensive incubator where the leading creators, brands, and agencies of the industry meet face-to-face to pull back the curtain on what’s actually working in the industry. it’s IRL application, not theoretical. it’s less “listen to me talk about my success story” and more “let’s dissect the strategies that are actually working.” it’s access to build relationships with the leading brains in the industry.
and unlike my $3,000 investment-
access to this one costs $500.
🥡 the takeaway: continued learning is no longer optional.
you won’t get ahead by staying still.
you won’t get ahead by testing and learning in a vacuum.
invest in yourself, and get in the rooms where people are doing it better than you. (like the platform 😉)
you will get ahead by stretching yourself, investing intelligently, and learning from the people doing it right.
